Types of Braces
Metal Braces
Metal braces are the most common type of brace that patients choose. Modern technology has made traditional metal braces much more comfortable than braces in the past. Metal brackets are developed from high-grade steel that align teeth with the use of arch wires. Metal braces allow patients the option to choose various colored elastics that tie onto each bracket. These colored toes help hold the arch wire into place. Our office has elastic ties in every color of the rainbow!.
Gold Braces
Gold braces are very similar to the traditional metal braces. These brackets are made of a high-grade stainless steel and are coated in gold. The gold coating is very muted in tone and tends to blend in a little better with the shades people's of teeth. The cost of the gold brackets is surprising identical to the cost of the metal brackets. This option also allows patient to add fun colored ties to their braces.
Ceramic Braces
Ceramic brackets are completely clear and are much less visible on your teeth than the metal or gold braces. Ceramic braces are perfect for patients that have cosmetic concerns. Clear brackets do require a little more attention than the metal or the gold options. These brackets are much more brittle and are slightly larger than other types of braces so proper care and brushing is very important with this option.
Invisible (Clear) Orthodontic Appliances, Invisalign®
Invisalign is an orthodontic system that involves a series of clear removable aligners that straighten teeth over time. Invisalign can be a great option for cosmetically concerned patients because most people cannot determine if you are wearing aligners on your teeth! Invisalign trays can be removed for eating, brushing, and flossing which tends to create less hassle to maintain than braces with brackets. The aligners do not have any metal so they do not cause any mouth abrasions during the course of treatment.
